The Honorary President of the Association of Gas Producers of Ukraine, Ivan Plachkov, during his speech at the opening of the Ukrainian Gas Investment Forum'2016, has noted: "We want to unite around the idea of energy independence of Ukraine not just gas producers, but also the responsible individuals from the Government, politicians, experts, journalists, and public figures. All those, for whom the energy independence of Ukraine is the number one priority. They should be ready to work jointly with the MPs, in particular, from the Energy Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, with the parliamentary factions, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry, National Reform Council under the President of Ukraine. They should work on creating efficient legislation in natural gas upstream industry, reforming the regulatory environment to attract foreign investments in the industry."
Provided the optimal regulatory and investment environment is created, according to the Association's calculations, by 2020 annual production of natural gas in Ukraine can reach 27 bcm from the current 20. By 2025, this figure can exceed 30 bcm. Combined with the implementation of energy-efficient technologies, this will be sufficient to minimize or fully abandon natural gas imports.
